The Way I See It - Photography Project

From the Arts Hamilton website:

Arts Hamilton is commencing an innovative community photography project in Hamilton. ‘The Way I See It’ (TWISI) will bridge the Hamilton arts community and newcomers to Hamilton. Made possible by the Hamilton Community Foundation and with support from Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration the photography exhibit is “not a contest or competition”, according to Steve McNamee, the project manager. “The Way I See It” is ‘Hamilton through the eyes of newcomers via the medium of photography’, pure and simple.” Everyone who is invited to participate will have one of their photographs on display in one of the exhibit venues in and around the city during the months of April and May.

The ability for newcomers to Canada and Hamilton to have a voice and presence in the local arts community is wonderful and the project has already bridged organizations and people who might never interact. How often do new mothers who have recently arrived from sub-Saharan Africa, young students from Bangladesh and Japanese language students from Columbia College have the opportunity to “speak” to the broader community as presenting artists? It’s kind of unheard of and it’s what ‘The Way I See It’ is designed to do”

Arts Hamilton is pleased with the exciting partnerships that have developed with many of our community organizations, including the Hamilton Public Library, Settlement and Immigration Services (SISO), North Hamilton Community Midwives, Columbia College, Immigrant Culture and Art Association (ICAA), Hess Street School and many others.

The exhibition will open April 11th throughout the city. Gallery spaces confirmed at this time include Arts Hamilton Gallery in the Village, History and Heritage, Mixed Media and Liuna Station.
